(Gadget) The Schwinn CycleNav Bike Navigation – keep your eyes on the road

Schwinn CycleNa
When you need to get from point A to B, you plug in the directions on your phone and make your way to where you need to go. This can be the case for walking, biking, taking the bus, and more. However, it’s easiest to keep track of where you’re going in your car as there aren’t exterior sounds to drown out what your GPS says, and it can sit right in front of you. When walking, you don’t need directions to come at you as quickly, as your pace isn’t going to be too fast.
However, when riding your bike you might want your information to be a bit more readily available. It’s not so easy to pull out your phone and check if you’re on the right path. If you wish you had a bit more assistance in finding your way, then the Schwinn CycleNav Bike Navigation system might be able to help you out. This is a Bluetooth device that will attach to your handlebars, and tell you which way to go.
This has an app which you will need to use on your smartphone, and it is compatible with both iOS and Android (4.1 or later). Since this is taking front and center on your bike, it only makes sense that this would also be an LED bike light to help you navigate when the sun is no longer making an appearance. If you don’t want to rely on pulling out your phone or keeping in earbuds to be able to hear what directions your phone is spitting out, this is a $50 purchase that will get you the CycleNav Bike Navigation, a bike mount, rechargeable battery, and a charging cable.
Available for purchase on Fancy, found via Redferret

(Gadget) Fly6 is a bicycle tail light that reminds others to safely share the road

Some time ago, Kingsley Fiegert was out riding his bicycle when someone in a passing car leaned out and shot him with a slingshot.  Kingsley was understandably in shock and in a great deal of pain, and he didn’t have the presence of mind to note the car’s license plate.  Kingsley and his business partner, Andrew Hagen, had the idea that perhaps a recording device on the back of a bicycle might remind motorists they need to share the road with bicyclists, much as a red-light camera discourages drivers from running traffic lights.  In other words, use their fear of getting caught to make them do the right thing, even if they lack the inherent humanity to behave properly on their own.  The Fly6 Cycling Accessory is the world’s first tail-light accessory and recording camera.  It attaches to the bike’s seat post, and it has two flashing patterns to make sure your bike is seen.  It also has flashing lights surrounding the HD camera (1280 X 720 resolution) to put drivers on notice that they are being recorded.  The camera records in AVI format to a microSD card;  it loops, so you never have to worry about running out of storage space on a ride.  The rechargeable lithium-ion battery can record for five hours, which is important for longer rides.  Fly6 is a successfully funded Kickstarter project, collecting nearly 3 times their funding goal in pledges.  It’s currently in its manufacturing phase, and they are accepting pre-orders from folks who missed out on the Kickstarter project.  You can pre-order up to five Fly6 camera/tail-light accessories at $159.00 US each.

(Bicycle) LEAOS Carbon Fiber Electric Bike

LEAOS Carbon Fiber Electric Bike 7
A sleek new e-bike is about to hit the streets, the LEAOS Carbon Fiber Electric Bike.  Designed and hand-assembled in Italy, the LEAOS is as much a design statement as it is an urban commuter vehicle.  All of the guts of the LEAOS bike are contained within its carbon fiber monocoque body, from the battery to the cables that connect the handlebars to the power source, the brake levers to the brake pads.  From a passer’s by perspective, it is a stealthy little ebike with a visual sensibility of “less is more”, and we’d love to give it a ride.
The LEAOS e-bike is available in two iterations, the LEAOS Pure and the LEAOS White, two colorways that both feature the system’s MPF middle motor drive.  That advanced motor and the internal battery pack can drive the LEAOS to as high as 28 mph, either as a pedal-assist or pure electric power.  Its base model cruises beyond 15 mph, and both are fully street legal– although the 28 mph model may require a moped license in most areas.
The LEAOS Carbon Fiber Electric Bike is available now, and buyers can order using the configurator on the LEAOS website.  The price is understandably high for this technology, as it is still in its infancy and has yet to see the price drops that come with the scale of critical mass.  The base model, with speeds of up to 15 mph, starts at nearly $7,000 USD after conversion.  If it keeps your car in the garage more often and gets you to and from work every day, that cost begins to justify itself.  Stay tuned for more about LEAOS models in the future…
